Unstained by the workings of karma, this consciousness represents our true, eternal self. The new aspect of Nichiren Buddhism is that it seeks to at one time bring ahead the energy of this consciousness--the enlightened reputation of the Buddha--thus purify the other, more fiddling layers of consciousness.       The Buddhist teaching of the nine consciousnesses offers the basis for a worldwide understanding of who we be, our true identity. The Sanskrit word vijn?na, which is translated as consciousness, includes a wide-eyed range of activities, including sensation, lore and conscious thought.
